Ventec Drills

Ventec drills bring gun drilling technology to conventional machine tools at a relatively small outlay. They are designed to solve the common problems of twist drilling deep holes — drill wander, poor size control, bad surface finish, flank wear, binding, and breakage. The tool must be supported in a short pilot hole before drilling commences; thereafter, continuous penetration to depth-to-diameter ratios of up to 100:1 is achievable. The offset tip geometry creates cutting forces that act upon the carbide bearing pads, burnishing the workpiece and achieving fine surface finish and size control. This dimensional control is responsible for the excellent concentricity — the drill has literally nowhere to go but forward. Available in three driver styles: VT1 (Ø5.0–11.73mm), VT2 (Ø11.74–21.18mm), and VT3 (Ø21.19–40.50mm). Flute length should equal hole depth plus 2× diameter to allow for regrinding. Holes deeper than 30 diameters should be drilled in 30:1 stages.

The problems of twist drilling deep holes are well known in the engineering industry. Drill wander, poor size control and surface finish, flank wear, binding and breakage are occupational hazards. The operation can be slow and inaccurate in the extreme.

An alternative is the use of Ventec drills which are designed to bring the benefits of gun drilling technology to conventional machine tools. Now for a relatively small outlay, it is possible to equip your machine shop with a system that provides a deep hole drilling capability, which in terms of speed and accuracy, equates favourably with gun drilling.
